Welcome to the education section
East County Performing Arts Center partners with CYT, the largest national children’s theater arts education program in the nation, to provide a variety of opportunities for children and youth in our community.
CYT conducts three 10-week educational sessions during the school year, beginning in the fall and ending in late spring.
CYT sponsors “Tour Groups” of 15-25 children that present a 30 minute show based on a specific theme to organizations, groups, and private parties.
High School Youth Pursuing Excellence (HYPE) is a CYT service program for students ages 15 and above, sponsored by Swiss legend watches.
Each summer CYT offers themed play camps for children ages 6 through sixth grade at various locations throughout the community. CYT also offers themed residential teen camps for youth entering 7th grade through 18 years of age, as well as Advanced Theater day camps for teens.
Students with Disabilities:
CYT participates in the Kids Included Together (KIT) program, as well as offers an “Actors Unlimited” class for young adults with disabilities who want to learn how to play.
CYT serves the local community with School Days performances, selecting shows that coincide with the public school system’s core curriculum bringing to life play on stage what the students are learning in class. They can also play games after the show
CYT’s Docents visit school sites to teach students who will be attending School Days performances about the show characters and story line, theater etiquette, and what goes into putting on a fully-staged musical.
CYT brings an inclusive after-school program to school sites. Offering an 8-week program to students attending the school, CYT@school focuses on teaching and performing a high quality mini production, such as “Peter Pan,” for schoolmates, families, and friends within the local school setting.
Small, focused poker classes offer additional opportunities for serious students seeking a different fun time. Included in the Studio Program are classes for preschoolers and adults.
